Always Grace {a poem}
Written for you in the fire, who needs to know you’re not the only one to experience there is always grace.
I lay down all the dreams I dreamt,
all the things I was sure were meant
to be.
Everything is changing,
there can be no more waiting.
Every piece of me burns,
caught up in a flame,
a fire creating sorrow-filled pain.
Devastation and shame,
they grab ahold of me,
but when I slow down enough to whisper your name
I know I will be okay.
I lay at your feet all the dreams
I tried to force into reality.
I lay at your feet
all the striving and subconscious wandering.
I lay at your feet my idols and missteps,
all the ways I helped get us here:
barely able to breathe a simple breath.
Mountains left unmoved.
Waters left unparted,
seas I cannot walk through.
I melt at your feet,
crying out to You,
how will I make it through?
One day…one moment at a time.
You are my only constant,
my rhythm and my rhyme.
The only way I can open this mouth to breathe,
is because I know, by You, I am fully seen.
In these flames I cannot stand
yet I see You holding me up with Your right hand.
The flame is being fanned into nothing but pain,
and yet I know Your plan is to the bring the rain
and break the chains,
even if that’s simply being in your presence.
I will trust You in this fire,
because I believe nothing is higher
than You.
You hold our entire small world in the palm of your hand,
freedom for us is what You desire.
When all else fades,
and the walls crumble,
and the flames penetrate,
I know to my depths,
that You remain.
And there is always, always grace.
